"Lovers' Park" along the seaside cliffs, Monteflores
We continued down a path to the beach, lots of surfers, conplete with a few 60's style VW surfer vans, and small concrete playing fields for a favourite local game, 6 a side "small football". We arrived back at the hotel in time to make the trip into the centre of Lima proper, where we toured a 16th century house, the Casa Aliaga near the presidential palace. The house was given by Pizarro to a friend, Jerónimo de Aliaga , in the 1540's, and has been owned and occupied by his descendants for 16 gernerations since that time. Our tour included a private dinner in the dining room of the house. More good info on the house at http://dutchinperu.blogspot.com/2009/02/casa-aliaga-gives-glimpse-of-18th.html. The meal was good, but the experience of the house was remarkable.
In the a.m., up for an 05:30 run (Andy), with Brenda crying at the door about charging off in the dark in a strange city. Always figured it was a bad set of legs that let a body get beat up. In any event, the first few people encountered were security personnel or young girls running alone, so apparently the dangers aren't that daunting. On return, still dark, and while stretching in the park across from the hotel, noticed somebody waving from an upper story window (we were on the 22nd floor). Assuming it was Brenda, I waved back. This went on for some time. Getting back to the room Brenda professed ignorance - guess somebody ended up disappointed. We headed for the airport at about 0800 for our flight to points south.
We're in Lima now. Victor Delfin, the father of the owner of Second Home Peru, where we have been staying in Lima created this sculpture. Turns out he is a very famous Peruvian artist! We met him and toured his studio. Glad to see this photo on your blog!
